Annual Chinese New Year's Tea Party
Date: Feb 06, 2011
Kick off the Year of the Rabbit amid Chinese lantern decorations and displays of traditional teaware and exotic and rare Chinese teas. Discover tea bricks (an ancient form of compressed tea molded into various shapes), and imperial tea mandarins, which are made by stuffing fresh hollowed out mandarin oranges with tea. Mandarins symbolize prosperity, abundance, happiness, and luck. They are often given as gifts in China around the New Year. Year.

Westshore Quilters' Guild presents "Quilts Along the Shore"

The fourth weekend in March 2011 is the long-awaited date for the Westshore Quilt Guild's third non-juried quilt show, "Quilts Along the Shore". The anticipated 300 quilts plus on display will be enhanced by a song challenge, community vignettes, merchant mall, demonstrations, quilt raffle, gift shop and games for children and adults alike. Held once every two years, the Westshore Quilt Guild show will focus on highlighting the techniques and workmanship of local quilters, with all skill levels and quilt sizes represented.

Ellen Hargis: The Garden of Love

Ellen Hargis (soprano) and Musica Pacifica present a program about love requited, love unrequited, love proffered and love rejected: all the subjects of the great Italian cantata literature. This absurdist comedy is the latest work from Victoria-born, Vancouver-based company Itsazoo (Death of a Clown, The Road to Cantebury, Grim Tales). Chairs follows three men as they struggle to coexist in a barren landscape. When one of them builds a giant chair to survey the surroundings, the other two become threatened by his new found power position. Will they follow suit? Or is it time to rebel?
Itsazoo were named Vancouver's Favourite New Company by Westender in 2008.
